Our Area Agency on
Aging (AAA) serves
Napa and Solano counties.
It is one of 33 similar
programs in California.
Our role is to plan,
coordinate and advocate
for the development of
local programs to meet
the needs of older
persons.
The Area Agency
is governed by a
volunteer Board of
Directors representing both
counties. Ten members are
appointed by the Board
of Supervisors in both
counties and six are
elected at-large,
for a total of
16 members. The Board
determines policy and
assures that all functions
required by law or policy
are faithfully performed.
The Board is assisted by
an Advisory Council, with
members from Napa and
Solano counties. A majority
of Council members
are age 60 and
older. The Advisory
Council is the principal
advocate for our
area’s older residents and
advises the Board of
Directors.
We receive funds
from the federal
and state government,
through the California
Department of Aging
(CDA) and from Napa
and Solano counties.
We also depend on
contributions and grants. We then directly provide or contract with local agencies for vital services needed by older adults in our communities. We monitor
all programs, assuring that resources are used properly and effectively.
