Our Area Agency on Aging(AAA) serves Napa and Solanocounties. It is one of33 similar programs inCalifornia. Our role isto plan, coordinate andadvocate for the developmentof local programs tomeet the needs ofolder persons.
The Area Agency isgoverned by a volunteerBoard of Directors representingboth counties. Ten membersare appointed bythe Board of Supervisorsin both countiesand six are electedat-large, for atotal of 16 members.The Board determines policyand assures that allfunctions required by lawor policy are faithfullyperformed. The Board isassisted by an AdvisoryCouncil, with members fromNapa and Solano counties.A majority of Councilmembers are age 60and older. TheAdvisory Council isthe principal advocate forour area’s older residentsand advises the Boardof Directors.
We receive funds from the federal and stategovernment, through theCalifornia Department ofAging (CDA) andfrom Napa and Solanocounties. We also dependon contributions and grants.We then directly provideor contract with localagencies for vital servicesneeded by older adultsin our communities. We monitor all programs,assuring that resources areused properly and effectively.
