DAY 1: Biopsychosocial Assessments
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What you will learn: This training will teach you to differentiate between medical, mental health and substance abuse problems when completing biopsychosocial assessments of self neglecting clients.
Presenter: Sharleen Grimm Ms. Grimm has been a long time APS supervisor in San Bernardino County and has earned praise for her lively and informative training style.

DAY 2: Engaging Reluctant Clients to Develop Service Plans that Work
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What you will learn: This training will teach you to use a variety of strategies to effectively engage reluctant and angry clients and their family members.
Presenter: Randy Mayer, M.A. As the Humboldt County Adult Protective Services supervisor from 2002 until 2007, Ms. Mayer chaired the committee that established the A.P.S. Multidisciplinary Team and fully integrated Public Health Nursing into A.P.S. She has been a trainer and consultant since 1996.

DAY 3: Legal Issues in Self Neglect
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What you will learn: At the conclusion of this training, you will understand and be able to apply APS’ legal mandate in order to effectively balance the client’s right to self determination with APS’s mission to provide for the safety and well being of clients who are unable to do so for themselves.
Presenter: Lisa Nerenberg, MSW, MPH, Consultant on Elder Abuse, Protective Services and Aging, Redwood City, CA. Ms. Nerenberg provides training and technical assistance to local state and national organizations, has testified before Congressional committees and developed comprehensive training curricula. Her book "Elder Abuse Prevention, Emerging Trends and Promising Strategies" was just released.
This Intensive training meets the qualifications for 18 hours of continuing education credits for MFTs/LCSWs as required
by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (PCE 3776).
